Why you need the Firenzecard for Florence
The Firenzecard is your All Access fast pass to some of the most important historical sites and Museums in the world and it is worth every damn penny.
It is priced at 85 Euro but includes so much that it will pay for itself if you visit 3+ museums in Florence. And trust me- you want to hit up the museums in Florence. The card provides a skip the line service that will save you so much time in your day especially if you only have a couple days to site see. We wanted to see the famous "David" sculpture and it took us maybe 8 minutes from lining up to walking in.
The card offers entry to 78 Museums and Historical sites, most include the fast track option.
Cappelle Medicee
It took less than 5 minutes to get into the Chapel with the fastpass of the Firenzecard. When we got there, the wait was maybe 20 minutes to get ahead.
The Medici Family is an important dynasty that ruled Florence and greater Tuscany through the 15th and 16th Centuries. Through their incredible wealth and influence, they cultivated Florence into a haven for artists and philosophers to thrive. The chapel was built in the 16th century and now houses the tombs of most of the Medici's. The Medici dynasty also produced 4 Popes in history and you can find many preserved relics from of the family. Donatello was also buried here! (also the namesake for the Purple Ninja Turtle)
Galleria Dell 'Accademia
By far this was the busiest Museum we visited. Had we not had that the Firenze card, we would not have been able to go in. The Firenzecard paid for itself here just to skip the line to see David.
The Galleria Dell 'Accademia is the 2nd most visited Museum in Florence. This, of course, being that Michelangelo's David is housed here. There are several other sculptures here but the crowds congregate in one of the main hallways for David
Santa Croce
The Santa Croce was one of the more surprising spots. I had not looked anything up about it beforehand. We simply wandered by it and went in.
It is the principal Franciscan Church in Florence, but it also is the burial place for some of the most brilliant minds in history including: Michelangelo, Galileo, and Machiavelli.
Uffizi Gallery
The most popular Museum in Florence and for good reason. The Uffizi holds some of the greatest masterpieces by Da Vinci and Michelangelo. It also has the painting that looks like Keanu Reeves :)
The Birth of Venus
Museo Galileo
Formerly named The Institute and Museum of the History of Science. (What a mouthful) This museum is really cool. A lot of the instruments and artifacts were collected by the Medici family and is dedicated to Galileo's pursuit of knowledge and Science.
Palazzo Vecchio
The Old Town Hall of Florence. Quite Impressive. This building has been standing since the late 1400's!
Duomo
It will get you in. Unfortunately the Duomo is so popular that it is does not have a fast track option and is a timed entry. We went on Easter Weekend. The next available entry time was 2 days after we left.
