Stay at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur
If it had not been for the Majestic Hotel, my trip to Kuala Lumpur would have gone very differently.
As I mentioned in a previous post here, due to some travel mishaps, I was only able to spend about 12 hours in Kuala Lumpur. We arrived in KL the next morning hoping to salvage at least an hour or two of our hotel reservation to shower and recoup after 30 hours of traveling. I had booked the Hotel through booking.com and it turns out because we were a no show they never charged us for our reservation. On top of that, they reissued our reservation for that day and upgraded our room for us. We still had to catch a flight out of KL to Singapore that night at 10pm but it was worth having a home base for the day to shower, eat, relax, and try to power through our jet-lag.The Majestic is a beautiful Hotel that draws it charm from the old 'colonial' days of KL. Built in 1932, the hotel was unrivaled in terms of luxury, hospitality, expanse, and modern facilities. The hotel was Gazetted and made a heritage building in the 1970's and although briefly being turned into an art gallery, was restored back to its historical hotel glamour in the late 90's. Currently it stands paying homage to original glory, which is evident the moment you walk into the lobby. I will never forget dealing with the wonderful front desk manager while I deliriously tried to explain our situation and how they were incredibly accommodating.
Room
We were given one of the corner rooms overlooking the pool. After the 30 hours of travelling with little sleep and hardly any food - this was a freaking presidential suite! I mean, just look at the glorious bathroom! My only wish is that next time I stay here, we will actually get to sleep in bed!
Food
The first thing we did was order a giant breakfast platter in bed because well, we had to. We ordered the Full English breakfast platter choice. My only regret is that we did not have enough time for the Afternoon Tea on the Lawn or dining in the Orchid Conservatory. That will be for next time!
Pool
In our 12 hour stay, we still managed to squeeze in time at the pool. It was rejuvenating. We hit the pavement running in KL so after 6 hours of lighting-fast city exploration, we wanted to relax and give in to the jet lag a bit by pampering ourselves at the pool. Note to self: schedule in jet-lag recovery to my future trips. I always forget that I am not immune. :)
Location
The Majestic Hotel is conveniently located next to several tourist destinations as well as train stations. I LOVE to take public transport. It's a really weird quirk but I love taking trains and subways. I attribute it to growing up in Southern California and not being able to just 'walk' everywhere. The Majestic is just about 5 minutes walking from Sentral Station, which is a train station that takes you directly to the Batu Caves! If you are not short on time like we were, you could easily walk to Chinatown and the KL Market or the Big park, which houses the Botanic gardens and Bird Park. It's a nice part of the city which didn't feel too crowded for us but was also very close to everything we wanted to see.
Services
The Majestic Hotel offers an array of luxury services to complete your relaxed stay. It stays true to the original idea that any patron should be supplied with whatever whim and fancy they so desire. The drawing room is available (reservations highly recommended) for lounging or high tea. If you are a cigar enthusiast, check out the Cigar room; smoking jackets required and provided! Truefitt & Hill are the highly skilled 'gentleman's grooming' services. There is even a bespoke tailor on the premise! Enjoy a simpler time at the screening room where you can watch classics that are put on during your stay. The hotel also provides a shuttle-bus service to all the major destinations and transit lines. Just arrange with the Front Desk. During my stay, due to our limited time, we were able to arrange a taxi through the hotel to take us around to all the sights.
